Headfirst

about

"the whole world is out there. no point in making it wait for you, right?"

Headfirst is a song i've wanted to write for a long while.

it began to take life when i was messing around with chord structures and mixed tempo in famitracker, turning out this semi-major sound in an alternating 3/4 - 6/8 rhythm. for a bit, it stayed that way, as i didn't know how to build on it melodically. but then i listened to the title track from Fearofdark's Exit Plan, and it inspired me to try writing a piece with a reiterated and developing melody, which i channeled into this track. with any luck, you'll walk away from listening to this with a certain four-note motive stuck in your head. :)

this might be the most energetic, seize-the-day song i've ever written, hahah. i went through some dark periods at the beginning of 2020, and i think putting my energy into such an uplifting piece really helped keep me afloat. if you're in a slump, maybe Headfirst can help revitalize you, too!

(this track uses the VRC6 expansion chip sound)
