Respective Reflections

from The Water Aisle by Crappy Blue

/

about

"everyone's reflections are a little bit different."

Respective Reflections grew out of a desire to write something with a larger two-part structure. stemming from a neat song name i'd written down years ago, this piece ballooned in size as i followed every idea the name evoked for me. "respective reflections" ties into almost every aspect of the construction here, from the chords and melodies echoed in different keys and voices to the entire second half mirroring and inverting elements of the first.

often when i write music, i explore the ways i can extend a work through repeating elements or adding new elements over existing parts, but Respective Reflections' two-part form broke this trend by requiring me to recontextualize existing elements in a new tempo, key, and general musical framework. in a way, that makes it the most ambitious piece i've written yet.
