Whisper of the Storm

from The Water Aisle by Crappy Blue

about

"the storm grows close. though it may be a whisper now, it won't be long before it becomes a howl."

as a composer, sometimes you just write something because you sat down and wanted to write music, whether you had an idea in your head or not; that's where Whisper of the Storm started.

in late 2017, i had gone through a compositional slump starting early in the year where i just... wasn't writing anything. and it was frustrating!! of course, i ended up experiencing an even bigger slump between late 2018 and the end of 2019... anyway, at that time in 2017, i just decided to make something small for the sake of writing music. that something, about 10 bars of chords and percussion, laid dormant for about a year until my brain connected it to a bit of magnetic poetry i'd had on my fridge for even longer:
"whisper of the storm
i desire your judgment"

from that moment, the rest of the track fell into place.

(this track uses the FDS sound channel and MMC5 expansion chip sound)

lyrics

Whisper of the storm, I desire your judgment
Whisper of the storm, I am calling you near
Whisper of the storm, I will witness your advent
Whisper of the storm, I am calling you here

Whisper of the storm, I desire your judgment
Whisper of the storm, I am calling you near
Whisper of the storm, I will witness your advent
Whisper of the storm, I am calling you here
Whisper of the storm, I desire your judgment
Whisper of the storm, as you rapidly appear
Whisper of the storm, waiting for the right moment
Whisper of the storm, pull me further from... further from here

Heh... at last... I have found peace
